Trees can be used to remedy some of the worst kinds of pollution problems and human created chemical waste, dioxin, ammonia, dry cleaning solvents, oil and gas spills, ammunition waste, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, PCBs and TNT.
Dead zones are caused by nitrogen and phosphorus, mostly from agriculture fertilizers. The largest 'dead zone' is in the Gulf of Mexico, fed by the nutrient runoff from the large-scale agriculture along the length of the Mississippi River.
Trees take up the waterborne toxic waste, neutralise it, metabolise and aerosolise it. Willow and Poplar trees are particularly good at this. One Willow can process about 75litres a day, imagine what a thousand could do!
